ON THEATER OF TRANSFORMATION
MADA[r]T is a collective of young directors from Germany, Nepal and Indonesia aiming to stage contemporary, site specific performances and creating exclusive video works. Team MADA[r]T was founded as a reaction to the massive earthquake in Nepal, 2015, in order to make contemporary art and international collaborations more visible in Nepal and worldwide. In the performances, MADA[r]T focuses on social issues such as women’s rights, gender equality and injustice in society. The aim is to create in the specific moment, working with the mediums of poetry, dance, physical theater and video works to create unique, non-repeatable artworks on site. We believe in social change by art, and by creating performances under different circumstances, by participating in discourses and touching the spectator at the bottom of his soul. Inspired by the grand masters of contemporary performance methods such as Ann Bogart, Robert Wilson, Tadashi Suzuki ..... we adapt ourselves constantly by finding new formations, narratives and compositions.
We are debris arrangers. Equipped with what we have inherited, we try to make a life, make a living and make art. We are assemblers. We forge received parts into meaningful compositions. This state of affairs is our plight and our destiny, but it also offers the opportunity to find meaning as well as to find communion with others.” ― Ann Bogart
ENABLING A NEW VISION
by Michaela Regina Theater of Transformation invites us to reclaim the theater of our lives as a space of agency. It presents the world as it is today: terrible, tragic, and tremendously ripe for transformation. It rekindles the immensity of our human compassion and awakens the farthest expanses of our imagination. Then it takes us into a pristine realm where nothing is yet scripted; everything is open for redefinition and evolution. Here, there are no rehearsed roles, no stage directors to manage our movements, and no prescribed decor. Now, we are called to express and enact what the present moment demands and what the future calls forth from each one of us. Theater recalls the meaning of culture and art, the transformative power that actors on stage may act similarily in real life situations, and that real life can considerably be changed through the powerful tool of performing art. |
